MONFRAGÜE NATIONAL PARK
For bird lovers, they cannot leave without visiting the Monfragüe National Park, located 45 km from Trujillo, one of the 15 national parks that exist in Spain and the first national park in Extremandura. More than 200 vertebrate species are raised, with birds being the largest group of different species and individuals, which is why in 1988 it was declared a ZEPA zone. Among others we can see in this park the black vulture, the imperial eagle, the black stork, the vulture. In 2003, Unesco recognized Monfragüe as a Biosphere reserve.
CÁCERES
45 km from Trujillos and linked by the highway A-58, is the City of Cáceres, declared a World Heritage Site by UNEXCO in 1986, since the Old City of Cáceres is one of the urban complexes of the Middle Ages and the most complete Renaissance of the world. We can visit the Co-Cathedral of Santa María, the Palace of Las Veletas, where the provincial museum of Cáceres, the house of the Sun, the Tower of Bujaco, the arch of the Star, the Plaza Mayor …
GUADALUPE
But also for the more adventurous, you can visit the Geopark of the Villuercas-Ibores-Jara, was born in 2011 as the only Geopark in this region and as one of the eight that exist in all of Spain. You can do many routes where you can enjoy breathtaking views, its geological formations such as the Collado de la Quebrada, the Gorge of the Pedroso, the Strait of the Peña Amarilla, … and also there is a great variety of fauna and flora.
MÉRIDA
At 85 Km from Trujillo, linked by the A 5 motorway, is Mérida, capital of Extremadura, with the title of “Very Noble, Ancient, Great and Loyal City of Mérida”, its archaeological site was declared by UNESCO “Patrimony of Humanity ”, due to its important historical and monumental interest.
You can visit its impressive and well preserved Roman Theater, the Amphitheater, the beautiful temple of Diana, the Arab Alcazaba, the Forum Portico, the Roman Bridge, Aqueduct and the Roman Museum…
PLASENCIA
A little more than an hour, connected by A-5 and EXA1 is Plasencia, a city considered “the Great City of northern Extremadura.”
